About

Genevieve Ongaro | B.Des 2016 Visual Communications Design | B.A. 2011 Anthropology & Psychology

I am a visual designer based in Edmonton, Alberta, and a graduate of the University of Alberta’s Bachelor of Design program with a focus on Visual Communications Design. I am continually working on personal projects and expanding my skill-set; I spend a lot of time on my ceramics practice, but I love working with my hands in many different ways. I take a lot of inspiration from nature and love being outside, whether at home or on my travels, and I’m always happiest with a furry friend beside me.

MANIFESTO

Design is both aesthetic and cerebral – it holds the power to express so much through so little, and I believe that it enhances the richness of life and how we experience the world. I love learning about other cultures and their material traditions, and I am deeply interested in the symbolism of textiles and patterns. I try to integrate this passion into my design work as much as possible; thus much of my design work is informed by culture, past traditions, and material culture. I believe in the importance of details and I also have a strong appreciation for the beauty and intricacies of typography, which pushes me to strive for elegance in all my designs.
